Filip Sosenko, PhD

Welcome to my official unofficial website

I am a Research Associate at the Institute for Housing, Urban & Real Estate Research (Heriot-Watt University). I work primarily with Prof. Suzanne Fitzpatrick, Prof. Hal Pawson, Dr Gina Netto and Prof. Glen Bramley.

My research interests lie in four fields: Urban Studies, Community Cohesion (particularly the social integration of new economic migrants in the UK), social housing policy and practice, and general sociological theory and research methods. Since early 2008 I have been involved in several research projects undertaking both qualitative and quantitative research, working with a range of clients including the Scottish Government, Communities and Local Government, and the Housing Corporation/TSA.

In 2007 I received a PhD in theoretical Sociology, my thesis being a systematic study into the extent to which qualitative research can be regarded as 'scientific'. The PhD was innovative in two regards: its comparison of methodologists' recommendations with actual research practice, and its examination of qualitative projects that are not granted 'scientific' status, such as documentary films and literary reportage.

I am interested in collaborative projects that relate to any of my fields of interest.
